Grooming for men is increasing in popularity regionally and a significant salon expansion has been planned for Oakland.
18/8 Fine Men’s Salons has been based within Los Angeles, but it has developed the idea of opening three stores in the Oakland area. The salons could make use of printing services in areas such as Vallejo to advertise in communities around Oakland. Chris Clay, the owner of the franchise, has told the San Francisco Business Times:
“From a business perspective, Oakland is a thriving and growing city with a very large population of men who want the types of services offered by 18|8. We offer all amenities and services that people look for but it is uniquely designed to cater toward men.”
Clay may be heartened by the contemporary expansion of his sector. During the last year, six barbershops have opened for business within San Francisco. There has also been expansionist activity undertaken by the Charles Blades Barber Spa, which is an Oakland business. All this has reflected a growing demand for such services. Facials and warm towel treatments are now quite commonly bought by men.
Each new store which Clay intends to open should employ about 12 people. Consumers will be given the opportunity to buy memberships. The advantage of securing a membership will be that services can be obtained more cheaply than if they are purchased on a one-off basis.
