Animal shelter launches fundraising effort

An animal shelter wants to increase the chances of finding homes for all its furry friends, and is raising money to make that happen.

The Friends of Newport Beach Animal Shelter (FONBAS), a nonprofit organization, launched its ‘Founding Members’ fundraising campaign recently. The organization hopes to gain 1,200 new donors it refers to as Founding Members. There are several goals outlined in this effort, including buying Newport Beach a permanent animal shelter.

Tim Stoaks, the president of FONBAS, said he was grateful to the Animal Control Division of the Newport Beach Police Department, which runs the current shelter. He is proud of its efforts to help the animals, who are in a leased shelter located in Santa Ana Heights.

Newport Beach began operating its own animal shelter in 2016. Prior to that, it had outsourced the service. Once the city took over the operation, FONBAS formed to help raise money to bring better care to the animals in the city shelter.

Stoaks said the goal of the Friends has always been to make it simpler for owners to find the “fur babies” they have lost, as well as making all strays more adoptable by augmenting the basic medical care provided by the city. Brochure printing can provide information for efforts like this.

Donors can give any amount, from the “puppy/kitty” category of $25 to the $1,000 “big dog.” Stoaks said he hopes city residents will join the effort so all animals will find forever homes.
