Laguna Niguel is joining thousands of communities across the country in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
An initiative of the Drug Enforcement Agency, it seeks to combat the problem of health issues raised from the misuse of controlled, prescription medicines. The DEA says a study showed that six million Americans misused legal prescription drugs in 2017, and that many of those drugs were found or obtained from people’s homes.
Residents of Laguna Niguel are urged to go through their medicine cabinets and bathrooms, and look for any expired and unused prescription drugs, whether it be pills, inhalants, and liquids.
Residents can drop them off at Laguna Niguel City Hall, where the drugs will be collected and then disposed of properly. The drop-off center is conveniently set-up so that residents can just drive through and not even leave their vehicles. Participants can remain anonymous.
The last Take Back Day in April saw more than 6,000 sites collect more than 450 tons of prescription drugs.
Community events like these are opportunities to use brochure printing to raise awareness of public health issues and educate residents on what they can do to help address the problem.
The Laguna Niguel National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, October 26, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Laguna Niguel City Hall, 30111 Crown Valley Parkway.
