The City of Laguna Niguel is making the annual flu shot process easier than ever with a drive-through clinic. It means that anyone wanting this year’s influenza vaccine can get their injection without having to leave their car.
Flu season typically happens between fall and spring, so medical officials say it is important to get a flu shot before flu season hits. People with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable during flu season, including the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions.
Everyone six months of age or older should get a flu shot, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Flu shots work by jumpstarting the body’s immune system and helping it to fight off the viruses that are present in the vaccine. According to the Mayo Clinic, this year’s vaccine will help fight off three of four of the flu strains that are expected this winter. Although not 100 percent effective, it is an important prevention tool.
Government authorities often require brochure printing for these types of clinics to better educate the public on the program and increase awareness of healthy living.
There is no registration required, but the shots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. People who are already ill, who have an egg allergy, or have Gillian Barre Syndrome are not allowed a flu shot.
The Laguna Niguel flu shot clinic is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 4 from 10am to 1pm at the Sea Country Senior and Community Center, 24602 Aliso Creek Road in Laguna Niguel.
