As a result of the general election held November 4, two open seats on the Laguna Niguel City Council were fill with newcomers Fred Minagar and Elaine Gennawey.
The openings were available due to two council members, one of them Mayor Linda Lindholm, being unable to run again due to term limits. Councilman Robert Ming was the other member who had termed out, after a bid by Ming for fifth district county supervisor was unsuccessful.
Minagar, who beat his opponent Matt Clements by a margin of only a few hundred votes, is an engineer who has on served on several commissions in Laguna Niguel over an 18-year span. He owns Irvine-based Minagar and Associates; a consulting firm that deals primarily with traffic, civil, and electrical engineering.
New councilperson Gennawey is no stranger to public service. She has been involved in Laguna Niguel city operations for over 25 years, and won her seat by a significant margin. Gennewey worked as a volunteer in the campaign to make Laguna Niguel a city and has been a parks and recreation commissioner for the area as well.
