Youth in Laguna Niguel can show off their baseball and softball skills in a national competition that encourages kids to take part in organized sports.
Major League Baseball (MLB) Pitch, Hit and Run is an event that takes place in dozens of cities across the U.S., and will be in Laguna Niguel in March.
Boys and girls can participate in skills competitions for pitching, hitting, and running. The best will advance to the national Pitch, Hit and Run finals in Los Angeles, during the MLB All-Star Week.
Kids compete in four age groups: 7 and 8, 9 and 10, 11 and 12, and 13 and 14. Participants need to register in person at the event, as there is no pre-registration available. No admission fees apply and all children between the ages of 7 and 14 are free to join.
The event emphasizes the fun aspects of baseball in the three major aspects of the game; hitting, running and pitching.
In the pitching competition, kids are tested by throwing baseballs at a designated strike zone target. In the hitting category, participants hit a baseball off a tee and are tested for distance and accuracy. In the running test, participants are timed running from second base, touching third base then crossing home plate.
