Hayward to hold teen driver safety workshop
Next month, the Hayward CHP Office will the Start Smart Class, which is designed to help teenagers who are currently drivers or soon-to-be-drivers.
Th Start Smart Class is a funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety in collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The program is intended to provide teenagers ages 15 through 19 and their parents an interactive way to learn important road and driving safety rules, regulations, and practices.
Despite the numerous driving programs and safer cars, car crashes remain the leading cause of death for American teens, which has remained consistent throughout the last decade and beyond. Due to this, the CHP has developed the Start Smart Class specifically for newly licensed or about-to-be-licensed teens.
At the two-hour class, students will learn about the primary driving dangers facing drivers in their age group and what responsibilities they have as licensed California drivers. To make this class more impactful, officers share their experiences with crashes involving young teen drivers.
Safety classes like this will often provide informative brochures for attendees to use in class and local print shops can offer these in bulk.
The Start Smart Class is slated for December 11 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. It will be held at 2434 Whipple Road, Hayward.
