Hayward lights up the season with bright holiday event

Hayward will flick the switch on its festive holiday lights display at the always popular Light Up The Season event in early December.

The Christmas tradition takes place around Hayward City Hall Plaza and is a free, family friendly event.

The evening's festivities culminates in the tree-lighting ceremony, where a giant Christmas tree adorned with thousands of colorful lights will be unveiled. The tree-lighting ceremony takes place at the City Hall rotunda.

There are fun activities for the whole family, from ice skating and face painting to carnival rides for children.

Choirs and school bands will be performing Christmas favorites for the duration of the evening.

The Hayward Fire and Police Departments will be collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys for its annual Toys For Kids Drive. For more than 20 years, the annual toy drive has delivered thousands of gifts to children. Every year, the police department delivers toys to more than 100 marginalized families in the area. Toy donors will be entered into a contest, and the winner will receive a gift basket of toys and holiday treats.

The Hayward Light Up The Season takes place in downtown Hayward on Saturday, December 7 at Hayward City Hall, 777 B Street (at Watkins Street) from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled for 6:15 pm.
