Gardening enthusiasts in the Hayward area are looking forward to Waste Management’s Compost Giveaway. The all-day event offers a green alternative to fertilizer that everyone can enjoy.
For most people, the word giveaway triggers flashes of Promotional Products and custom Pens combined with a big advertisement. This, however, is not a standard giveaway. Instead, the company is giving away up to four one cubic foot Bags of compost. The company will take a paid trash bill or any other proof of residency in order to process the request. Only Hayward residents will be able to participate in the giveaway.
The compost being given out will be made up of yard trimmings and food waste from the Bay Area, meaning it is all locally sourced. It is then placed in a covered aerated static pile and allowed to decay. Each bag has been rated with the industry seal for excellence and valued as suitable for organic farming by the California Food and Drug Administration. The same compost is popular in the Sonoma and Napa Valleys, as well as several local organic farms.
The Waste Management Compost Giveaway will be held on April 1, 8:00 am to 11:00 am at the Hayward Animal Shelter, located at 16 Barnes Ct. Participation is free to all Hayward residents.
