Hayward shoppers are being urged to shop local and enjoy a global experience this holiday season in a new campaign promoting the diverse small businesses of Hayward’s Tennyson Road.
Called Together for Tennyson, the Hayward Economic Development Division has created an online campaign and business directory where shoppers can go to peruse the many shops, grocery stores, and restaurants of the Tennyson Road corridor. Many of the businesses on the street are independent small businesses and/or minority owned.
The street has an international flavor, with a wide variety of ethnic restaurants and markets. Shoppers are being reminded and encouraged to visit these restaurants, or shop at the markets to make ethnic meals at home.
The new website is accessible through the City of Hayward website. Residents are asked to take and share photos of the businesses and share them on social media channels with the hashtags #TogetherForTennyson and #TennysonThrives.
Campaigns such as this one can use flyer printing and poster printing to advertise participating merchants.
Visitors to the business directory can follow links to business websites or social media pages. It separates Tennyson into three segments: Lustig Ct. to Ruus Rd., Tampa Ave. to Patrick Ave., and finally Hesperian Blvd.
Campaign organizers are quick to note that the directory still does not include all the business on Tennyson Road. Businesses that want to be included can email the campaign organizers through the City of Hayward website.
