New Chula Vista festival features dance and music

A brand new community festival is set to entertain Chula Vista residents with live music, food and cultural entertainment.

Chulafest promises to be a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic event celebrating everything about life in Chula Vista. It's a free, family-friendly festival.

There will be a variety of local bands playing all day at the stage in Community Park, including Sambrosas, San Diego county's first all-female salsa band playing at noon. Other bands include Funks Most Wanted, Orion, Devotion and Solidjam.

Food vendors will be serving up dishes from various cultures and nations – and there will activities such as face painting for children. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs and/or picnic blankets to sit on as they watch the entertainment.

Dancing will be a big feature of the day's entertainment with Iamdance, Ujam, and Hui Halau O Malia, a Polynesian dance group from San Diego. There will also be a dance contest for students at the local high school.

Banner printing is often needed at community events such as this one, as a versatile and inexpensive form of advertising. Vendors and performers are asked to register at the festival's website.

The first ever Chulafest takes place at Chula Vista Community Park, 1060 Eastlake Parkway, right off Otay Lakes Road and next to Eastlake High School, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
