Chula Vista workshops to share fruit tree growing tips

Freshly picked fruit can be a real taste treat, but not everyone has access to their own tree. An offering planned for the Chula Vista are will teach both the backyard and small scale producer how they can successfully install and care for an orchard of their very own.

Several of the skills needed for successful tree fruit production will be shared as part of the Wild Willow Farm and Education Center’s Holistic Orchard Care workshop. The focus will be on organic growing and can be helpful for those with an interest in edible landscaping, agriculture and sustainable horticulture.

The first Saturday will provide an introduction to plant and cultivar selection, as well as the art of pruning for maximum fruit production and tree health. The second day will teach propagation and planting skills, including the installation of bare root trees. Students are asked to register for both classes unless they already have a sound knowledge of plant care.

The admission price per workshop is $65, and a special discount will be offered to anyone who purchases tickets for both. Manuals and other training materials for this sort of function can be provided by area Print shops.

This opportunity for the backyard gardener and small scale grower to add to their tree care toolbox will be offered on February 7 and 9. The venue can be found at 2550 Sunset Avenue San Diego.
