Chula Vista has undertaken a variety of initiatives intended to make it a more sustainable community, and its residents have been invited to take advantage of one of its programs.
Gardeners know that compost can be a secret weapon when it comes to a healthy, thriving garden, and the city will make it available for pick-up during its Free Compost Giveaway. It will take place at the Otay Landfill, which can be found at 1700 Maxwell Road, and it will welcome the public for four hours.
Those who would like to take advantage of the offer can bring their shovels and buckets or other containers to fill up, and tarps are also recommended to cover the haul for the trip home. The material can be used as a soil amendment in beads, containers, and other plantings.
The activity is hosted to thank community members for their support of local environmental initiatives, and there is no fee being charged to participate. This will be the 10th year for the giveaway.
Events geared towards locals can help to build a strong and connected community. Materials prepared by a poster printing company offer a marketing option that tends to give a good return on investment.
This free compost giveaway day will be running from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 10. Anyone with questions can contact environmentalservices@chulavistaca.gov or call 619-691-5122 for more details.
