In its most recent newsletter, the city lays out some simple tips for shoppers who want to contribute to the local economy. It reads:
“Local small businesses are the heartbeat of our city. Your support not only helps them, but it also bolsters the entire community.”
Besides visiting local businesses, tips people can follow include purchasing gift cards from their neighborhood shop or restaurant and promoting independent businesses and their owners on social media accounts such as Facebook and Instagram.
Diners are also encouraged to make reservations at locally owned restaurants and tip the serving staff at least 18-20% of the bill. Another suggestion is to schedule annual services ahead of time. If residents know they are going to use the service, they can book and pay for it now.
All types of businesses, from restaurants and small grocers, to independent retailers, can benefit from community residents shopping small and local, and Print shops can help them distribute material before and on the day.
