Chula Vista schedules free compost giveaway day

Many gardeners consider compost to be their secret weapon, and a Chula Vista giveaway will help to stock local plantings with this rich resource.

The City of Chula Vista has scheduled a compost giveaway day, which will be held at the Otay Landfill. This activity has taken place since 2015, and it serves as a way of showing gratitude to community members for their hard work when it comes to the proper disposal of food and other organic waste.

Interested residents will be able to pick up some compost, and this will be facilitated by Republic Services. There is no fee being charged for this, and the materials used will be collected from the local area. They can add it to their garden, pots or other plantings.

Everyone who plans on taking advantage of the offer is reminded to bring along a shovel, pails or another container, and a tarp to cover their compost as they make their way home. A poster printing company can prepare signage that may be helpful in keeping this type of public event organized and running smoothly.

The city of Chula Vista is invited to take advantage of the free compost day scheduled for August 31. It will be open from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon. Anyone who has questions can reach the organizers by phone at 619-691-5122.
