Gardening can be a fun and productive pastime, and a Chula Vista activity will help local horticultural newbies to get involved.
Residents who have been hoping for an opportunity to get their hands dirty when it comes to gardening are invited to register for the Backyard Gardeners Crash Course. It will pack lots of information into a small amount of time, and will be a hands-on event.
The learning will begin with a review of the planting seasons, as well as hardiness zones and what they mean. Tips for seed starting will be shared, and transplanting seedlings into larger pots or plots will also be covered. Plant care, including watering, fertilizing and pest control will be discussed, and the benefits of companion planting and soil management are on the agenda. Everyone will receive additional perks such as packs of seasonal seeds and starting soil.
One of the items that will be provided to the registrants in the session will be a growing calendar specific to the local area. Stationery printers will be pleased to prepare Copies of handouts and other items for an event.
The San Diego Seed Company will be offering its all-ages Backyard Gardeners Crash Course starting at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 9. It is scheduled for 610 Gateway Center Way in San Diego, and there is free onsite parking.
