The Chula Vista area is home to many plants, and some of these are edible and can be turned into a variety of dishes. The students who take part in a class that will be offered nearby will be provided with an introduction to this flora, along with how, when, and where it can be harvested.
The three-hour class will investigate the topic of plant identification from a variety of angles. The students will be encouraged to create their own nature journal, and they will be taught how they can press plants so that they can be saved for reference in the future.
The session is being hosted by Wild Willow Farm and Education Center, and it will include a tour of the facilities. The participants will find out how they can identify wild plants before they are collected, and there will also be a discussion of the impact invasive non-native species can have on the ecology of an area to which they are introduced. The goal for each student to walk away knowing how to press plants, and also how to positively identify at least three plant families.
The workshop is the first of a series of three that will explore botany from a culinary perspective. Graphic design can be used by a Print shop to craft Journals and other materials for this type of occasion.
This opportunity for the public to learn how they can bring a wild side to their tables will be held on August 19. It will be offered at 2550 Sunset Avenue in San Diego.
