Picking sun-warmed fruit fresh from their own tree is a highlight of the year for many home horticulturalists, and the participants in Chula Vista area class will find out how they can enjoy this experience for themselves.
The University Heights Community Association (UHCA) Garden Club will be offering the public an opportunity to discover the ins and outs of home tree fruit production by hosting an in-person learning activity. It will include a private tour of City Farmers Nursery, and it will be a morning activity.
This is a chance to visit the nursery for a behind-the-scenes look at how it operates, and will be led by its owner Sam Tall. He will discuss topics such as choosing the right species, variety, and cultivar for particular location and microclimate, and the participants will also be offered tips for selecting one that is the right size for their space. They will be taught how to care for and install bare root stock, and all levels of experience are welcome.
Taking part in a class gives those who garden a chance to learn and meet others who also enjoy getting their hands dirty. Handouts for an activity can be supplied by area Stationery printers.
This easy introduction to the joys of growing fruit at home will be held on Saturday, January 21. The registrants will meet up at City Farmers Nursery at 9:00 am.
