Chula Vista abuzz with upcoming activity

The news is buzzing about an event set to take place a few miles south of Chula Vista.

Wild Willow Farm & Education Center is the location for a beekeeping class. The class is for anyone who is curious about bees, and about keeping them. Participants will have a chance to have some hands-on experience in the company of the center’s beekeeper, learning about the resident bees. The class will cover hive tools that are used, the parts of a hive, types of hives, honeybee society, and the dos and don’ts of beehive etiquette.

To maintain safety, social distancing and masking protocols will be strictly enforced, and participants will be required to sign a COVID waiver. Spots in the class will be assigned on a first paid/first reserved basis. If the class sells out, organizers cannot guarantee spaces will become available.

There are three sections to the course, but it is possible to purchase only one. The first class is Beekeeping 101-Introduction to Beekeeping, which will be held August 7. A week later, on August 14, the class is Beekeeping 102-Beehive Building and Introduction to Carpentry. The final class, on August 21, is Beekeeping 103-Beehive Rescue and Honey Harvesting. To take the Beekeeping 103 class, students must have taken 101, or have some knowledge of beekeeping. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts for events like this.

The Wind Willow Farm is at 2550 Sunset Avenue in San Diego, less than five miles from Chula Vista.
