What's Happening in Carlsbad, CA…

Two Carlsbad libraries to get 21st-Century update

Carlsbad’s Georgina Cole Library and the Carlsbad City Library will each in turn receive a makeover that will bring them more in line with the changing needs of their patrons.

The first library to be updated is the 48-year-old Cole Library, which will close on September 1 for what is expected to be a five-month renovation project. The Cole’s programs will continue at other branches while it is closed.

The Carlsbad City Library, located on Dove Lane, will begin its makeover only after the Cole Library has reopened. Its timeline for completion is expected to be approximately five months as well, and its programs will also be handled by other Carlsbad libraries.

Keeping the library patrons informed of where their favorite programs can be accessed during the closures will be a job best handled by a flyer printing service.

Work at the Cole Library will include cosmetic updates such as new paint and carpet, as well as safety features that include a fire sprinkler system and a new elevator. Improvements to the technological infrastructure will enhance Wi-Fi connectivity and increased power access.

The significantly newer Dove Library, at only 16 years old, will require less maintenance and update work. Instead, it will have its courtyard redesigned with a café complete with expanded refreshment options and a new patio. Emphasis will be placed on creating a “living room” atmosphere, as well as community gathering space.
