Restroom renovations in the works in Carlsbad

The restrooms near Tamarack Avenue on Carlsbad State Beach have been closed for renovations and will remain so until the end of January.

On Monday, December 29, The Carlsbad State Beach restrooms near Tamarack Avenue closed so that work such as new fixtures and partitions, fresh paint, and an epoxy floor could be carried out. Additional work will include refurbishing the roofs with new skylights, and outside the restrooms, new showers and drinking fountains will be installed, as well as the replacement of corroded hand railings.

Although the restrooms and the area surrounding them come under the jurisdiction of the California Department of Parks & Recreation, the resources available from the State Parks System are not sufficient to the task. Therefore, Carlsbad is assisting in the performed maintenance, upgrades, and landscaping

The projected costs for the maintenance is $93,400. A flyer printing that outlines the scope of improvement, as well as its benefits and what it can provide to a municipality, would not only inform people but also get the public onboard with renovations of this nature.

During the restroom closures, which are projected to continue throughout this month, temporary restrooms are to be set up in the Tamarack Avenue parking lot. Additionally, beach-goers can use the restrooms at the Pine Avenue ramp, which will remain operational for extended hours.
