What's Happening in Carlsbad, CA…

Carlsbads coastal bluffs undergo spruce-up

Work is underway along part of the bluffs overlooking Carlsbad’s coastline.

Earlier this month, work commenced on the bluffs north of Tamarack Avenue along Carlsbad Boulevard. According to the city, crews removed invasive species and debris away in a stretch of bluffs in preparation for re-landscaping with native plants.

Although the area in question is under the stewardship of the California Department of Parks and Recreation, that agency did not have the resources to do the necessary maintenance and renovations. Therefore, an agreement was reached whereby Carlsbad would assist in fulfilling those responsibilities.

Assistant City Manager Gary Barberio said in a statement:

“Investing in these improvements will have a big payoff, both for the quality of life of our residents and supporting our significant tourism economy.”

Included in the improvements are five new picnic tables, 20 new benches, and 10 recycling and trash receptacles in areas along the bluff popular with joggers, walkers. and picnickers. Additionally, a low fence, which it is hoped will deter the public from scaling the bluff, is planned.

Planting in the area is expected to begin in late fall and there are still improvements planned for bathrooms at the foot of Tamarack Avenue.

In situations such as this one, a poster printing service can be used to remind the public of the part they can play in keeping the area looking fresh and clean.
