Carlsbad welcomes spring in style
In Carlsbad, the arrival of spring heralds the bloom of acres of colorful flowers, and the public is invited to come out and enjoy it for themselves.
The Flower Fields of Carlsbad Ranch will be open during the eight-week blooming period of the Giant Tecolte Ranunculus to allow people to get a closer look. These relatives of the buttercup are a cherished part of the local heritage and these flowers are considered by many to be one of its rites of spring.
In order to get the best views, there is a walking trail that leads to the top of a hill where those who come out can take photos or just enjoy the scenery. Picnic tables and benches are available for those who wish to relax and enjoy a snack amid the colors.
Flowers have been grown in the area for more than 85 years. The ranunculus are grown for their blooms and bulbs, which were sold to gardens who wanted to enjoy them in their own yards. The flowers, bulbs and potted plants that are currently grown at the ranch will be available for purchase at the flower fields. Direct mail printing can be used to keep the community abreast of events such as this.
Admission to the ranch for adults is $14, while it is $13 for seniors and $7 for children from ages 3 to 10. There is no charge for those under three.
