Carlsbad initiative to transform trash into treasure
Disposal of trash is an issue faced by many communities, and in Carlsbad, an initiative will help to keep items from local landfills.
The San Diego Fix It Clinic program will be held in Carlsbad on various dates starting in December, and comes at no cost to the public. It will help to breathe new life into broken appliances, toys, bicycles, technology, and even clothing by making repairs, and the entire family may enjoy the experience.
Each person who brings an item to one of the activities will have an opportunity to have it assessed to see if it can be repaired or not. Tools will be provided, and the facilitators will be happy to share their expertise. The listing prepared for the functions explained that there are plans in the works for a textile repair clinic, as well as a furniture mending classes and demonstrations. Further details about these will be released as they become available.
As the event is volunteer driven, the organizers note that additional assistance will be most welcome. In cases like this, a printer will be able to prepare small corporate gifts to distribute to volunteers as a gesture of thanks for their support.
The first of these free pop-up fixing clinics has been scheduled for Saturday, December 10, with others following on February 25 and April 15 at Georgina Cole Public Library. The venue will depend upon which date is selected.
