Show Low Chamber schedules annual meeting

The Show Low Chamber of Commerce now has its annual membership meeting on the calendar.

The theme of the evening is the “Wild Wild West,” and will feature auctions, raffles, and a “gather’n.” Those who wear their best boots and Wild West gear will be given extra raffle tickets. Event organizers say that everyone is sure to have a good time.

The Show Low Chamber of Commerce has members in approximately 90 different sectors of the economy. These include companies working in aviation, banking, medical care, insurance, hospice care, broadcasting, and retail.

According to legend, the city gets its unusual name from a card game played in the 1870s. Two ranchers, Corydon E. Cooley and Marion Clark, fenced in approximately 100,000 acres. However, their partnership did not last, and they played cards to decide who would buy the other out. They played all night until finally Clark told Cooley that if Cooley could “show low,” he would win. Cooley cut the deck, “showed” the deuce of clubs, and won the game.

The meeting is set for Thursday, March 9, from 5.30 pm until 8.30 pm, at Licano’s Mexican Food & Steakhouse, located at 573 West Deuce of Clubs in Show Low. Events like this, which draw people with common interests together, are often seen as great places to exchange Business Cards. Tickets are $50, including dinner and a ticket for one drink. Sponsorships are still available for individual tables, as well as for the event.
