Event brings New Orleans to Show Low

A party in Show Low will bring a touch of New Orleans to this Southwestern city.

The Show Low Family Aquatic Center is the venue for the upcoming Mardi Gras Pool Party, which is open to people of all ages. In addition to refreshments and prizes, live music will be provided by The Bash. When organizers plan a lively, colorful event like this, they may decide to work with banner printing companies to create appropriate decorations. The traditional Mardi Gras colors are purple, green, and gold, and can be worked into the décor.

Mardi Gras, which is also called Shrove Tuesday, marks the final day of Carnival before the beginning of Lent, which starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday at sundown. In some denominations, the observation continues through Holy Saturday, the day before Easter.

Since the date of Easter is not fixed, Mardi Gras moves as well. Although Lent is observed as a time to reflect, for many people Mardi Gras has turned into a gigantic party. In New Orleans, it includes parades, and a days-long celebration of great food and music.

The party is scheduled for next Tuesday, March 4, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, which is the official date of Mardi Gras in 2025. Pre-registration is $5 per attendee. Anyone interested may register online or in person at the Aquatic Center. Tickets are $7 at the door.
