Show Low is welcoming the holidays with a special event.
The community is now accepting registration for people who would like to enter their float in the upcoming Christmas Light Parade. The theme of this year’s parade is “Polar Express,” a hugely popular subject that has inspired train rides all over the country.
“The Polar Express” is a children’s picture book written by Chris van Allsburg and also illustrated by the author, who won the Caldecott Medal for Illustration. The book appeared in 1985 and has become a classic. In 2004, the book was adapted into a motion-capture film starring Tom Hanks, and directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film, which follows the book closely, was nominated for an Oscar.
The parade route is along the Deuce of Clubs, starting from Central Avenue and ending at White Mountain Road. A photo of a past parade shows what viewers may expect this year: a flatbed truck full of inflatable characters, surrounded with beautiful Christmas lights.
The Show Low Christmas Light Parade is scheduled for December 7, starting at 6:00 pm. Parade participants are asked to line up at 4:00 pm at Central Avenue, which they should enter from Old Linden Road. They will also check in at this time. When they plan outdoor events like this, organizers may decide to work with banner printing companies to create seasonal decorations that are weatherproof as well as attractive.
