It seems the pastime of Robin Hood is alive and well in Show Low.
Three organizations, the Winterhawk Archery Club, Terrybuilt Original Archery Design, and the WO Pro Shop are hosting a Competitive 3D Archery Shoot & ASA State Championship, which will be held in Show Low.
The first day of the three-day event begins with a fun shoot starting at 3.00 pm. The second day brings competitive shooting as well as continuing the fun shoot. The fun shoot continues on the final day, which is also the day of the ASA State Championship contest.
There are various classes available for archers of differing abilities. These include Elite, Men’s and Women’s Open, Men’s and Women’s Hunter, Senior, Traditional, Young Adult Boys and Girls, Youth Boys and Girls, Junior Eagle Boys and Girls, and the Long Shot.
The 3D in the title differentiates this contest from others. Most shoots are static, with the archer standing still, in line with a target at an established distance away. In 3D shooting, however, the archer is on the move, and is required to traverse uneven terrain, shooting at targets that “pop up” at irregular intervals and in unpredictable locations. It is possibly the closest it is to get to an actual hunt.
The event runs from July 18 at 3.00 pm until July 20 at 12.00 pm. Contest events like this may be improved if organizers use flyer printing to create handouts for participants including suggestions and regulations.
