News coming out of Governor Key Ivey’s office in Montgomery, as well as from the Alabama Department of Revenue, states that the deadline for filing state income taxes has been moved from the original date of April 15.
Taxpayers will be able to defer their tax payments that were due in mid-April as far back as July 15, and will not have to pay any interest or fines for doing so, no matter how much is owed. Information such as this is often shared in press releases that feature official Letterheads.
This deferment on tax payments can be used by all taxpayers including corporations, individuals, trusts and other filers. The deadline for corporate income tax and business privilege tax has also been extended. Confirmation about the tax deferments came in an official statement from the Governor, where he said:
“This morning, I signed a supplemental State of Emergency order to allow the Alabama Department of Revenue to extend state filings until July 15, 2020. It is imperative that we reduce the burden upon Alabamians and get folks back on their feet financially.”
Taxpayers will not be required to fill out any specific Forms or make calls to the Alabama Department of Revenue in order to make sure that they qualify for the extension. This relief is automatically applied to all taxpayers.
Any taxpayers who feel that they may need more time beyond the new date can put an application for an extension using the usual procedures.
