State launches vaccination portal

News coming out of Montgomery shows that the Alabama Department of Public Health has released an online service that allows people in Alabama to check if they are eligible for the vaccine, and to make appointments with their local health providers.

The portal can be found at www.alcovidvaccine.org, and features a straightforward interface and updated information about extra services and walk-in clinics that have been put up. People who put their information into the portal can find out whether they are eligible and select where they want to get their vaccines administered. They can also choose to be notified via email when the vaccine becomes available to them.

The website will have a full list of the state’s vaccine providers and information about what to expect when going for the vaccine. Offline, such information is also often disseminated through flyer and poster printing.

Around 325,000 healthcare workers in Alabama, as well as close to 350,000 people aged 75 or older, are eligible for the first round. On February 8, another one million people became eligible.

An assessment of the stock available and the timelines estimated for when more will arrive means that most clinics are concentrating on second doses in February. In order to stay safe, individuals are advised to use drive-through clinics and walk-ins if an appointment at the county health clinic is not available.
