Several schools set to be chartered

LIFE Academy has put in an application that would allow it to convert what used to be the St. Jude Educational Institute into a chartered school.

The Montgomery County Board of Education signed off on the application and it passed by a margin of five votes to two. The board expects that LIFE will bring forward a contract within the next 60 days. Once the contract is approved, LIFE will be able to move forward on its plans to have the facility open for business at the end of 2021.

When the school opens it will be educating students from kindergarten all the way to sixth grade, and another two grades will be added every year. Such changes are often made public with brochure printing.

LIFE will become Montgomery’s second startup charter after LEAD Academy. Three other public schools in Montgomery are being converted into charters. Davis Elementary is the first of the three and it will be converted in the fall of 2020.

Norma Chism, who is the founder and CEO of LIFE Inc., stated:

“Our desire is to produce a multicultural environment using cutting-edge technology to develop global leaders.”

A public meeting was held on January 9, where community members and members of the board met with representatives from LIFE to hear what the plan was for the school. The school’s enrollment will be limited to residents of the surrounding area.
