New bills to encourage economic development in Alabama

A State Senate committee in Montgomery recently approved a package of economic bills that provide several ways to attract businesses and industries to Alabama.

The three bills had previously passed through the House and include tax incentives for companies who create new jobs in the state, provide rewards for businesses that employ veterans of the military, and create tax incentives for companies already existing in Alabama that reinvest in the state.

The incentives are of a "pay-as-you-go" nature, meaning that will be given to companies once they demonstrate that they have met the requirements of the incentives.

According to Greg Canfield, Alabama Department of Commerce Secretary, it was a measure that needed to be done so the state can remain as competitive as possible to attract new industries. Canfield added that Alabama has failed to keep up with its surrounding states by not being proactive in this regard, but suggests that these new bills will help the state to draw new capital, which in turn will create new jobs and enhance the economy.

This package of bills will now to the floor of the Senate for final approval.

Once approved, Print companies in the state may be hired to create Flyers and mailers that can be sent out to companies with more information about these incentives, and the benefits of moving or expanding their businesses to Alabama.
