Montgomery Workshop caters to budding organic gardeners

E.A.T South is hosting a free workshop to help residents learn the basics of developing their own garden.

Organic Gardening 101 is a class for novice gardeners who need a little advice about establishing a backyard garden. The class will cover tasks like improving the quality of soil and transferring new plants. The two-hour workshop is for anyone that wants to learn more about producing healthy, organic food in their own yard.

The class is presented by E.A.T. South, a Montgomery-based organization that operates as an urban teaching farm. Its mission is to educate and empower people locally to help them to take control of the quality of their food. A portion of the produce the farm grows is sold to support their programs and the remainder is donated to local community events. The group also offers workshop and farm field trips.

Companies that wish to become a sponsor of the organization can contact it through its website, send their Business Cards for more information or donate directly through the E.A.T. South website. The website also has volunteer applications for anyone that would like to contribute their time to the cause.

Organic Gardening 101 will take place on March 24 from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at the E.A.T. South farm located at 485 Molton Street in Montgomery. All participants will receive a tomato plant to take home at the end of the class. The workshop is free for all, but registration is required. Visit the Facebook event page for registration information.
