Montgomery museum offers annual family event

The upcoming 2018 Flimp Festival provides a day of interactive creative activities.

The Montgomery Museum of Art is holding a one-day festival that is designed to help everyone get their creative juices flowing. ‘Gulf Coast Jubilee’ is the theme of the event and is inspired by several exhibits now on view at the museum. There are competitions, a pet parade, scavenger hunt, and much more planned. A chalk art competition is scheduled, live performers will entertain the crowd throughout the day and concessions will be available.

The competitions include a writing contest for children in grades K-8. Participants are asked to write a story using Walter Anderson’s Road to Oldfields as inspiration. Anyone that would like to have their pets in the Do-Dah Pet Parade, or take part in the writing contest, should register before May 5. Applications are on the museum’s website as well as guidelines for the theme for the pet parade costume contest. Pets must be up-to-date on their vaccinations to participate.

The annual event happily accepts sponsorships for the festival as well as for the individual competitions. Guests could consider including an encouragement for others to give too, by mentioning events like this in any corporate brochure printing. Those who would like to donate directly to the museum or to sponsor a specific event will find the Forms on the museum website.

The Flimp Festival is scheduled for May 5 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Blount Cultural Park located at 1 Museum Drive in Montgomery. Admission fees are $3 per child, $5 per adult, and $15 per family. There is no fee for municipal employees, members of the museum and active duty members, as well as their families.
