Montgomery market to host Memory Cafes

Dementia Friendly Alabama and Whole Foods Market are combining their efforts to offer a social opportunity for residents with dementia.

Dementia is a frightening diagnosis for anyone, but for those with the condition, it can also be a lonely existence. Memory Cafes are an opportunity for people to socialize and meet others with similar experiences. The events are designed to offer the attendee a sensory experience. A tour will allow all to enjoy the aromas, taste, and feel of the products. A live musical performance from the Montgomery Symphony is also planned.

Dementia Friendly Alabama is a part of the Central Alabama Aging Consortium. The group is committed to improving the lives of dementia patients and their caregivers by helping others in the community to become more aware of the condition. Their efforts also include developing opportunities for patients to socialize with their friends and neighbors.

People that would like to contribute can donate directly on the website or contact Dementia Friendly Alabama through their Facebook page to discuss brochure or flyer printing to help advertise the Café events.

Memory Cafes are designed to be a fun and interesting experience. There is no admission fee, but anyone interested in attending is asked to call Stephanie Holmes at (334) 240-4680. The events will take place the second Friday of every month with the next event beginning at 10:00 am on June 8. Whole Foods Market is located at 1450 Taylor Road in Montgomery.
