Montgomery food drive to support local need

Organizers of the Third Annual Stuff the Truck Food Drive hope to fill their truck with non-perishable foods.

A wide array of non-perishables can help the organizers to reach their goal in this event. All donations go to the Montgomery Public Schools Backpack Program. The program helps to fill the needs of food-insecure children during days when school breakfast, snacks, and lunch are not available.

The volunteers in the non-profit fill the Backpacks of children in need each Friday at school so they have meals and snacks during the weekends and on school vacations. The effort is quiet to prevent embarrassment to the child as they pick up their Bags before going home. Teachers, counselors, and others working with the children help to identify the ones with the most need.

Donations to the food drive should include non-perishables that can fill the need for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Crackers and granola bars, oatmeal, canned foods and juice Boxes are just a few of the examples of the types of items the organizers hope to collect. The food gathered during this event stays in the River Region Area.

Local businesses can help events like these by poster printing to spread the information at their own location to encourage more support. Volunteers are welcome to collect food at their locations and deliver the supplies to the food truck on the day of the event to help the organizers reach their goal.

The event takes place on August 25th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Winn Dixie parking lot at 7946 Vaughn Road in Sturbridge. For any questions, please call (334) 603-2663 for more information.
