Montgomery cooks prepare for chili contest

The Montgomery Lions Club Chili Cookoff searches for the best chili recipe in the area later this month.

Chili cooks should hit the Print shops to prepare for the influx of requests for their favorite chili recipe. The Lion's club cookoff will enable guests to sample the best chili creations available from restaurant chefs and home cooks across Montgomery. The day will include plenty of tasty samples and a costume contest for children.

Established in 1922, the Montgomery Lions Club is a part of Lions Club International, the largest service-oriented organization in the world. The first chili competition took place in 2004 and raised more than $14,000. It is just one of the events the club holds each year to raise funds for the many charities the group supports. Each member of the group is a community volunteer and they collectively support charities that aid children, the elderly, and people with illnesses or disabilities.

General admission to the event is $15 per person and $10 for active and retired military. Entry to the costume contest is an additional $5. Team cookoff registration is $325 and includes 20 tickets and four T-Shirts. Teams must cook 10 gallons of their chili for the event. Entry deadline for contestants is on Monday, October 15.

The cookoff takes place on October 27th from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Riverwalk Stadium. The stadium is located at 200 Coosa Street in Montgomery. Visit the Lions Club chili cookoff website for registration information and costume contest entry Forms.
