The eighth annual Dragon Boat Festival is coming this August to Riverfront Park.
Dragon boats loaded with teams of 21 people each will compete for the title in this exciting race with ancient roots. The Hong Kong-style watercraft is central to this fun competition that welcomes everyone. All races, ages and abilities are invited to take part and become part of the experience. Personal, corporate and community teams all traditionally join the festival that is one of the most enjoyable fundraising events in the city each year.
The August 26th, 2017 event is expected to include over 60 teams that will help to raise funds for two important local causes; Bridge Builders Alabama and Rebuilding Together, Central Alabama. The event will also include art exhibits, live music, and refreshments as everyone is invited to watch the racers compete for the Grand Championship Trophy.
Registration if required for those that wish to compete in the race. It is important to plan early because each team must contribute by raising funds for the chosen organizations. All money raised will be deducted from the $2,500 registration fee. This is a great opportunity for local businesses to get more visibility for their company. There is still plenty of time for poster and banner printing for the boats as well as for creating Promotional Products like T-Shirts for the team to wear during the race. Vendors are also welcome and should contact the race organizers for more information.
