Councilman seeks help feeding firefighters

A councilman from Montgomery is looking for people to help him with a program to help local firefighters.

When the pandemic started, instructions went out saying that people should avoid preparing food in order to stop the spread. This had a negative effect on the camaraderie that the firefighters had. Councilman Oronde Mitchell feels that this camaraderie is an important part of how the fire station functions and wants to fix it.

Oronde Mitchell is the representative for District 6 in Montgomery. When he found out that the firefighters were unable to cook, he set to work soliciting local businesses to help. Many businesses are struggling to stay afloat which is why Mitchell is not asking for donations, but partnerships instead. The meals will be paid for. Businesses can use flyer printing as inserts in food delivery packages.

The response that Mitchell received from the community has felt overwhelming. When asked about how is handling it, Mitchell stated that:

“Everybody been calling. What can I do? How can I help? And that’s the thing about Montgomery, we might be different on certain things, but when it comes to coming together for a good cause, all Montgomery is ready to put in the footwork.”

Mitchell needs help now with delivering to the stations. He and his team are working around that issue by prioritizing restaurants that are located close to the fire stations.
