Expected to be the largest annual sporting event Montgomery has ever seen, the blue-grey game is expected to include the best athletes of the college football season and will undoubtedly draw fans from around the country.
Although there has been talk of the game coming to Montgomery for some time, its promoters recently came to terms with media giant, Raycom Media, which was announced as the sponsor of the game last month. The Montgomery-based corporation is one of the country’s largest broadcasters and owns an impressive catalogue of companies, including Raycom Sports and Broadview Media. Raycom also boasts the highly-coveted digital media rights to Atlantic Coast Conference sporting events.
Partner sponsors will include Coca-Cola, Alabama Power Company, and Allstate Insurance. Local printing companies will probably be called upon to deliver everything from flyer printing to banner printing and even digital Business Cards for the countless promoters, broadcasters, and workers who will no doubt be involved in the event.
The Montgomery Advertiser quoted Montgomery mayor Todd Strange as saying:
“This is more than a sports event in Montgomery, Alabama… This is a signature event that is going to showcase our city.”
Promoters and sponsors are currently strategizing on how to hold an annual game in Montgomery that will be financially sustainable for the long-term, avoiding the situation during the 2002-2003 blue-grey games, which were held on Christmas Day.
