City extends deadline for car tag renewals

A probate judge in Montgomery is encouraging people to make use of the city’s online services rather than going to offices in-person.

The county opened a few of its satellite offices at the start of May and was initially overwhelmed by the number of people seeking services. Judge L. C. Love feels that the wait times at these offices would be much shorter if people did what they could online. After analyzing the situation, Judge Love said:

“The biggest thing people have been doing is coming in and redoing their tags. With our offices being closed from March, we had a lot of people coming in and trying to renew their tags from March and April.”

The Alabama Department of Revenue Commission is making it easier for people by extending the deadline for renewing tags June 19. Anybody who wishes to renew their tags will not be hit with late fees until then. The Police Chief has already agreed to forego writing any tickets on tags that were supposed to be renewed in April or March.

People who wish to renew their drivers’ licenses can also do so online and the tags will be sent through the mail, likely featuring an official letterhead. The judge stated that applying online is rather quick and will save everybody time. Anybody who feels that they must interact with a probate officer in person can still visit the offices, put should prepare for long wait times.
