BrewTech earns new certification

Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School in Montgomery has been recognized for its dedication to advancing the sciences with a certification in STEM.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. BrewTech is now the first school in the state to be given a STEM certification by Cognia. A team from the accreditation agency spent two days reviewing the school and conducting interviews with students and teachers to evaluate how well the school was implementing its STEM programs. After careful consideration, Cognia decided that BrewTech is worthy of the certificate.

Students from the school were happy to have earned the accreditation. They feel that this is a big step forward for the school and are happy that all the hard work they have put in over the years is being recognized. Being able to graduate from the only school in the state with this certification makes it that much easier for the students to gain admission into top-quality universities and win scholarships. Having STEM as a critical part of their classes makes them better all-round students and looks good on their transcripts.

Shannon Lester who is an English teacher at the school said:

“This has been about the students from the beginning. We are 100% positive that STEM has been implemented in this building since it opened in 2001. It was the mission of the school from the very beginning.

The entire process of gaining certification took six weeks. Any brochure printing done in the future is likely to include details about such an achievement.
