Newport to welcome punk-inspired musician

The singer-songwriter Seán McGowan is on tour and due to play a gig in Newport at the end of July.

This Southampton native and musician listened to British punk-influenced artists from an early age. These included The Clash, Billy Bragg and The Specials. In 2009, he began collecting stories and creating tunes whilst working in bars in between performing acoustic guitar sets.

McGowan has performed throughout the UK and has self-released several EPs, including 2011’s McGovernment and 2012’s The People’s Music. This attracted the attention of industry figures around the time of Brighton's Great Escape Festival in 2013.

However, it was McGowan’s appearance at Glastonbury, on the Left Field stage with Billy Bragg in 2013, which saw him perform to his largest audience to date. He subsequently toured with headline artists such as The Rifles, Frank Turner and Beans On Toast.

McGowan’s Look Lively EP came out in early 2016 and his successful single “No Show” was followed by a full-scale, sell-out UK tour. However, it was not until 2018 that his debut album, “Son of the Smith”, was released – to much critical acclaim.

Tickets for McGowan’s upcoming concert cost £11, inclusive of a booking fee. Printing services are a useful resource when it comes to preparing for a concert or forthcoming musical event.

Seán McGowan's gig has a starting time of 7.30pm on Friday 29th July at Le Public Space, Newport.
