Newport to host classical orchestra

Sinfonia Cymru, the under 30s classical orchestra, is on tour and due to hold one of its concerts in Newport in mid-November.

The orchestra is returning to the city after an absence of nearly two years. It will be joined on stage by guest soloist and director Timothy Ridout, who is the present BBC Radio 3 Next Generation Artist. This British violinist is in constant demand as a chamber musician and soloist. He has, for this tour, devised a varied programme showcasing the viola.

The performance will include Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue K. 546 and Telemann’s Viola Concerto in G Major. Also on the programme is JC Bach's Concerto for Viola, Strings and Basso continuo in E-flat major, reconstructed by Wilfred Fischer, Biber’s Battalia and Tabakova’s Such Different Paths.

Ridout last performed with Sinfonia Cymru in 2018, playing Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante together with Benjamin Baker when the orchestra debuted on BBC Radio 3.

The performance should appeal to both classical devotees and novices eager to sample the concert experience for themselves. Tickets range in price from £4.00 for students to £19.50 for full adults. Print shops can be a useful resource when planning a forthcoming musical event like this.

Sinfonia Cymru & Timothy Ridout concert has a starting time of 7.30pm on Thursday, 18th November at The Riverfront Theatre & Arts Centre, Newport.
