Newport regeneration plans announced

The Fear Group - a family run business that focuses on property acquisitions and investments - announced recently that Plans have been tabled with Newport City Council for a £60 million redevelopment a site measuring five and a half acres, by Newport’s riverfront.
This site used to be home to a branch of Sainsbury’s, but the proposed scheme would see a hotel with 84 bedrooms, a student village, convenience outlet, health centre and 144 flats, built there.

Much of this residential accommodation would be constructed alongside Newport City Homes, providing affordable housing options for residents of the city.

Leon Fear, a director of the Fear Group, stated that:

“We have long believed in the future of Newport as a key strategic location and look forward to delivering this important regeneration project to form the next chapter in Newport’s emergence as a regional powerhouse.”

Should the scheme get the go-ahead from the local council, the Fear Group will be able to use places offering brochure printers in the local area, for the promotional literature outlining its vision.

The group has also indicated that this is not the only project that it has planned for the city, as it is undertaking discussions with the aim of bringing a company specialising in state of the art green technology to Newport.

Dr Stephen Fear from the group stated that this could create around 300 job opportunities, and the construction of the riverfront project would also likely stimulate local employment.
