The indie rock band Kidsmoke, hailing from North Wales, are due to play a gig in Newport in mid-August.
This four-piece outfit's distinctive sound has attracted considerable attention. They formed in 2013 and featured on the Netflix series "Black Mirror". Then, in 2018, their single Sister Sadness achieved a listing on Steve Lamacq's "6Music Recommends".
The band was also named The Sunday Times’ “Breaking Act” with Robert Smith of The Cure inviting them to play his own Meltdown Festival. "Rising Sun" proved to be the next single, taken from their 2019 album, produced by Russ Hayes and recorded with guitarist Bill Ryder Jones, formerly of The Coral. It received considerable airtime on BBC Wales and BBC Radio 6 Music, as well as featuring on E4's "Made in Chelsea".
October 2018 saw Kidsmoke venture with FOCUS Wales to Western Canada, appearing at the Breakout West Festival. This led directly to an invitation to appear at Austin's SXSW 2019 in Texas. According to The Sunday Times, their songs are "detail-rich pastoral pop miniatures”, while Indie Shuffle described the band as an "exciting proposition".
Tickets cost £7 and in support are Hyll, Big Thing, and Morning Arcade. Banner printing can be an effective way of promoting any local cultural or musical event.
Kidsmoke's gig has a starting time of 7:00 pm on Saturday, August 14 at Le Public Space, Newport.
