Newport date fixed for folk artist

Welsh musician Cerys Hafana is on tour, and due to appear with support in Newport at the beginning of March.

This composer and multi-talented instrumentalist hails from Machynlleth, Powys. She creatively revisits and plays folk songs as well as delivers her own compositions on the piano and Welsh triple harp. Her interests also extend to discovered sounds, resources in archives, and electronically processed music.

Hafana, who is a Welsh youth folk ensemble or Avanc member, released her first solo album in 2021, called 'Cwmwl'. She has been continuously winning over audiences at festivals from Green Man to Celtic Connections.

'Edyf', the 2022 follow-up album, is derived from material found in the National Library of Wales's online archive including Psalm music, doomsday hymns and philosophical writings, combined with original tracks. It is performed mainly on the triple harp, but the bodhran, althorn, double bass and electronics are also utilised.

‘Edyf' was chosen by The Guardian for inclusion in its list of that year's Top Ten Folk Albums. January 2023 saw her feature on Cerys Matthews' popular BBC 6 show focusing on the musical highlights of 2022.

Tickets cost £15.40 inclusive of a transaction fee. Poster printing can be one of the most effective Forms of promotion for a concert or other theatrical event.

Cerys Hafana's show has a start time of 7.30pm on Saturday 9 March at Le Public Space, Newport.
