Griffiths has been a regular participant in this event since it began two years ago, and he informed the South Wales Argus that he is hopeful of a lively atmosphere again for this year’s race:
“The first year was great, last year was even better and I felt a really good buzz around Newport.”
Griffiths also provided some details of his pre-race training schedule, commenting:
“I did a run of the River Usk this week and it was pretty good. I was not going mad.”
The half marathon will get underway at 9am, starting from Commercial Street’s pedestrian section, with the route then taking runners to Caerleon and back into the centre of Newport, alongside the River Usk.
Although it will no doubt attract a great many competitors again this year, the organisers are likely to make use of flyer printing in Newport during the next few weeks, to make sure the event is promoted.
Griffiths’ participation will also help raise local awareness of the half marathon and the AM has much experience of distance running, with six London marathons under his belt alongside the two previous Newport runs.
The 2015 Newport Half Marathon will take place on 1st March.
