What's Happening in Warrington, England…

MBE awarded to Warrington charity hero

A Warrington woman found herself featured alongside stars such as ‘Sherlock’ actor Benedict Cumberbatch and comedian Lenny Henry recently, thanks to the Birthday Honours List.

The announcement of who was to be honoured by the Queen this year saw a volunteer and disability campaigner based in Warrington listed among those to be given BEMs, CBEs and MBEs.

Sue Bentley, 59, lives at Weston Point and has spent five years as the treasurer of Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP), in addition to serving as a trustee for 15.

Those behind her nomination included the charity’s chief executive officer, Dave Thompson MBE DL, and she will now attend Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen and receive the MBE for her community and charity work.

Speaking to the local press, Bentley said:

“I’m one of those people who see things that need doing and I put my hand up to do it. It’s as simple as that. Dave Thompson has been a huge mentor and influence on me.”

She went on to add that she was grateful to Thompson for nominating her and that she hoped she would get to meet Lenny Henry, due to her admiration for the charity work he does.

The charity may wish to make use of printing services in Warrington to publicise this honour within the community.

As well as her WDP work, Bentley is on the committee for Runcorn Women’s Institute.
