Miss Potts, a teenager who goes to Hillingdon Young Carers (HYG), triumphed in the Young Carer Bake Off (YCBO). The event involved over 1,400 participants. Miss Potts may need Business Cards from Hayes if she wants to set up a food business in the future.
Kimberley Wilson, a finalist in The Great British Bake Off (TGBBO), was one of the judges on the day, and told This is Local London:
“Iram’s cake was original and very creative. She did a great job in a short amount of time. Young carers are some of the most strong, courageous and inspiring people on the planet and I’m honoured to be here.”
Other judges at the occasion came from YMCA Fairthorne Group and The Children’s Society (TCS). TCS is keen to use baking to bring people together. The organisation uses initiatives like YCBO to help young people enjoy themselves. Those behind the project appreciate that respite and amusement are of importance for youngsters with caring responsibilities.
Miss Potts said how much she enjoyed the festival. It was the first time that she had attended the occasion, yet she managed to decorate a cake in only half an hour. She explained that she was pleased and surprised by her victory.
